By default a subscription runs until the customer cancels. A plan can instead be sold as a fixed run: six charges and done. Nobody has to remember to cancel it, and the customer knows what they are agreeing to before they buy.
Open the plan, find Subscription length on the delivery option and switch it from Runs until the customer cancels to Ends after a set number of charges. Then type the Number of charges.
The charge at checkout counts as the first one. A monthly plan set to 3 bills at checkout and twice more, then ends: three payments, three deliveries.
The smallest term is two charges, not one. Both engines check the term after a charge settles, and nobody is told about the checkout charge at the moment it happens, so a one-charge subscription could only be ended after a second charge had already been taken. Something sold as a single payment should be a one-time product, not a subscription.
The largest is sixty. That is a guard against a typo rather than a technical ceiling: "30" meant as days should not quietly become a thirty year commitment.
A subscriber on a fixed-length plan sees where they are in it, in their account: "2 of 6 deliveries left", and on the final one, "This was the last delivery of this subscription". The widget on the product page carries the length as a chip, so a shopper knows before subscribing.
It works on both billing engines. What differs is only how the charges are counted, and on Mollie a cycle that needed dunning retries still counts as one charge, so a customer whose payments gave trouble does not get a shorter subscription than the one they bought.
The term belongs to the plan, not to the subscriber. Changing the number on a live plan changes it for everyone who subscribes next, and there is no undo for the ones who already finished.
Removing the term altogether turns "six months" into "forever" for everyone who buys after that, which is worth a second look before saving.
A gift on a later delivery counts deliveries the same way, so "ends after 6" and "gift on order 6" land on the same box on purpose.
